Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) platforms are a creative tool and part of our futures as creatives. The AAC acknowledges the challenges this technology poses. For the purposes of this policy, Generative AI is defined as software or services that produce new imagery, language, moving images or other material. Your engagement with Generative AI must enhance learning, not compromise learning. For these reasons, faculty may choose a Fully Restrictive Policy, Fully Encouraging Policy, or Mixed Policy on Generative AI which is appropriate for individual courses. It is the student’s responsibility to conform to policy expectations for each course.

Fully Restrictive Policy

In this course, students are expected to submit work that will be their own. ChatGPT or any other Generative AI tools at all stages of the work process, including preliminary ones are specifically forbidden. Violations will be considered academic misconduct per the AAC’s Academic Honesty policies.

Fully Encouraging Policy

In this course, you may use Generative AI tools. However, you may not submit any work generated by an AI program as your own unless conceptually relevant. When in doubt, seek clarification with the course faculty. If you use Generative AI at any stage in the creation of your project (including initial stages, idea generation, drafting, language translation, and final form), you must properly cite and disclose this use. This should include details on the specific tool and version used and the nature of your usage. Violations will be considered academic misconduct per the AAC’s Academic Honesty policies.

Mixed Policy

In this course, you may use Generative AI tools in your process, just as you can collaborate with your peers for things such as brainstorming, getting feedback, revising, or editing of your own work. However, you may not rely on Generative AI output for significant portions of your final project form unless it is a necessary part of your project’s concept. If you are using Generative AI as a research tool, devising thoughtful prompts, and evaluating and adjusting the output to be more accurate and objective, then you are using the technology appropriately for this course. You may not submit any work generated by an AI program as your own. When in doubt, seek clarification with the course faculty. If you use Generative AI at any stage in the creation of your project (including initial stages, idea generation, and editing), you must properly cite and disclose this use. This should include details on the specific tool and version used, as well as the nature of your usage (for example, in images and/or text/writing). Violations will be considered academic misconduct per the AAC’s Academic Honesty policies.
